Helsinki Airport Railway Station is along the long-awaited Ring Rail Line, which offers a convenient route between the airport and Helsinki city centre. Paired with the nearby Aviapolis station also by the Helsinki- and Shanghai-based PES-Architects, Helsinki Airport Railway station fulfils expectations as the pinnacle of the rail journey and the overture to the flight.

Helsinki Airport Railway Station was selected in the Finnish Architecture Biennial Review 2018. Extract from the jury report:

“The architecture relies on the impacts of the electrifying sensation of arrival and the scale of the episode that spans from the underground platforms to the ground-level entrance points. Arrival at the station is only the beginning of the gradual, final sequence that takes the traveller from darkness to the light-filled terminal. And, for those arriving, stepping onto the descending escalators is only the first movement in the final trip to one’s destination in Helsinki.”
