Tehtaankatu primary school has been in operation for over a hundred years. It was built according to Albert Nyberg’s prize-winning entry in an architectural competition. The original features of the art nouveau school are still visible in the outward appearance of the building and especially in its interior. The construction of the building was completed in 1908.
Nearby ‘Koivu’ at Tehtaankatu 19 (Paavo Björk, 1904) draws attention with its tower, shaped like that of Olavinlinna castle. It is also quite similar to Eira-Maja´s (Kapteeninkatu 4–6) tower.
