Tampere Hall is the largest culture hall, specially designed for culture and conference use, in Nordic countries.

Tampere Hall is located in Sorsapuisto park in the Tampere city centre, right next to the city campus of Tampere University. The building is situated freely to the Sorsapuisto park, and it doesn’t follow the grid plan of the surrounding district. It represents a postmodernist style of the 1980s and early 1990s. Finnish National Opera in Helsinki is one of its contemporary culture buildings in Finland. White and pale blue ceramic tiles are the primary façade material. With the large window walls, the building opens to the Sorsapuisto park.

The open architectural competition of Tampere concert and congress hall was arranged in 1982. The proposal “Tehtaan pilli” [“A factory pipe”] won the competition in 1983 from the 72 entries. Architects Sakari Aartelo and Esa Piironen designed the winning proposal. They were assisted by architect students Peter Meyer, Eija Halme-Salo and model builder Martti Helispää. Architect and acoustic design specialist Alpo Halme joined the team after the competition.

In the early 2010s plans for the renewal of the building were started. Tampere based Kontukoski Architects designed the refurbishment and the annexe of the building. The annexe includes the museum space for the Mumin Museum. The project was completed in Spring 2017. The renewed Tampere Hall opened its doors on June 2017.
