The Ruukki Healthcare Centre is located in the municipality of Siikajoki in the south of Oulu, with approximately 5000 residents. The healthcare centre is situated next to Mäkelänrinne service centre. The healthcare centre does not continue the architecture of a service centre with forms or materials but is independent with its architecture. The building is sited freely in a wooded area of a sparsely built-up district. The surrounding woods manage to camouflage the building. The extensive traffic areas necessary for the various functions dominate the immediate surroundings.
Despite its small size, the healthcare centre stands out from the surrounding building and has a clear public character, due specifically to its exterior architecture. The main entrance is distinct. The exterior materials consist of patinated vertical timber boarding in the long façades and untreated aluminium cladding in the gable façades.
The heart of the interior is formed by the lobby, where the spacious corridors of the reception and consultation rooms converge. The rooms open up favourably also to the surroundings and can receive ample natural light as necessary.
