Puijo Tower is an iconic landmark of the cityscape of Kuopio. The tower was built on the top of the Puijo hill, offering views over Kuopio and Kallavesi lake from its top-floor restaurant. The tower was designed by architect Seppo Ruotsalainen and completed in 1963.

The top of the tower rises 224 metres above the Kallavesi water level and 306 above the seawater level. The Puijo valley is known for its sports and leisure facilities. Popular outdoor routes are located in the woods surrounding the tower. Some of the most important winter sports venues are located in the Puijo valley.
