Pori City Library is a fine example of constructivist modernism of the 1970s. Architects Olli Steen and Olaf Küttner from the city of Pori designed the building.
The planning of the new library began already in the late 1960s. Up-to-date design choices were searched by making learning trips to new library buildings in Kuopio, Seinäjoki and Lappeenranta. The city architect of Pori, Olaf Küttner planned the brief of the library. Küttner died unexpectedly in June 1974 and Steen, an architect working in the house construction department of the city, continued the project as a principal architect. Qualified builders Veikko Nore and Reino Posti assisted Steen with the planning. The construction of the building started in November 1974. Pori City Library opened its doors on October 1st, 1976.
