The Church of Bishop Henry
- Turku
- 1980
The Government Office Building is situated at the crossing of Storagatan and Torggatan, opposite the Town Hall park, in the town centre of Mariehamn in Åland.
The untouched part of the site and the parking area are both on different levels, the latter shielded from view by the building itself. The building is in a yellowish tile and plastering, like many of the commercial buildings along the main street Storagatan. The public status of the building at the end of the main street is underlined with its location in the streetscape and the scale of the building.
The building houses the government offices and is the administrative centre of the Åland autonomous community. Turku based architects Pekka Pitkänen, Ola Laiho and Ilpo Raunio, designed the office building.
