The Kakola funicular in the southeast slope of the Kakolanmäki hill in Turku is the first funicular built in Finland. It began to operate in the spring of 2019. The funicular is part of the former Kakola prison area development on the Kakolanmäki hill between the city centre and the harbour.

The two sculptural station buildings were designed by Turku based Vapaavuori Architects founded by architect Pekka Vapaavuori, designer of Kumu, Art Museum of Estonia in Tallinn. The buildings consist of technical spaces and a passenger waiting hall. The upper station is situated by Graniittilinnankatu Street and the lower station by Linnankatu Street.

The traffic is controlled by separate entrance and exit doors. The canopies on the doors offer shelter to the passengers. The elevation materials are corten steel, glass and stone.
