Tervaväylä School is one of the striking examples of contemporary school architecture in the Oulu region from the recent two decades. The sculptural four-storey school building is located in the Myllytulli district in near the Oulu city centre. The principal elevation materials are dark grey brick, orange painted wood and white painted concrete.

The orange colour of the interiors is needed to compensate for the limited sensory world of the pupils in the school of children with disabilities. The internal traffic passes through the entrance hall which reaches to all four storeys of the building. The hall works also as the school’s dining hall.  The entrance hall is marked on the elevation with a window wall. The L-shaped school building was designed by Linja Architects and it was completed in 2009.
