Extract from the Finnish Architecture Biennial Review 2014 jury report:
“Finnish schoolchildren achieve brilliant results in international comparisons of academic performance, but our results in surveys comparing their happiness at school have been less flattering. Saunalahti School tackles this problem in a refreshing way – by offering what is an undeniably inspiring and upbeat environment for learning and enjoying education. In its functional arrangement, the school offers a typical sample of contemporary school architecture, applying current pedagogical theories on what constitutes an effective learning environment. The well-lit schoolyard feels safe and pleasant.”
