The police station and fire department of Pori are a fine example of mid-century modernist architecture. The complex forms an entrance to the Pori city centre when arriving at the grid plan from South. The traffic circle in front of the complex was planned to be part of the complex’s functions, enabling police cars and fire trucks easy access to head different directions of the city from the plot.
The complex, completed in 1959, consists of a six floors office building of the police station and the fire department building which has two floors. The buildings are joined together. The complex was designed by the city architect of Pori, Olaf Küttner. On the side of the public office, Küttner had a private office in Pori, Olaf Küttner Architects. He worked as a city architect from 1951 until his death in 1974 and was involved in most of the large public construction projects in Pori.
