The holiday home, located on a rocky headland in the Ekenäs archipelago, is part of an ensemble that also includes an annexe (an old cottage), a sauna due to be renovated and an outbuilding currently under construction. The client wanted a modern villa built using traditional construction techniques and natural materials, with large, light-filled living spaces with views, and additional sleeping spaces.

Due to the form of the terrain, and in order to create wind protection, the building is divided into two interconnected parts, each with a pitched roof, linked by a spacious entrance hall. The stepped levels help break up the otherwise rather large south facade, and thus both bedrooms have a sea view.

The building is built of hand-carved pine logs, but also comprises a pillar-and-beam structure in connection with the large windows. The black exterior envelope helps integrate the building as part of the existing building ensemble and the bright, sun-faded tones of the interiors exude an archipelago atmosphere. There are two main vistas through the building; one from the entrance towards the terrace and the other from the terrace through the building towards the sea.

The floor comprises wedge-cut pine planks treated with lye and oil. The ceiling is also pine. The surfaces are painted with plastic-free, breathable paints. Beige-coloured Jura limestone has been used in the entrance hall and bathroom. The timber was sourced locally and the builders who carried out the construction were also local. The building has natural ventilation, a geothermal heating system and underfloor heating.
