1862 Signe Ida Katarina Hornborg was born in Turku to a family of Hilda Augusta Henrika Thomé and Anders Johan Hornborg, who later became the bishop of Porvoo.
1887 Hornborg enrolled at Polytechnical Insitute in Helsinki to study architecture as an extra student, the education was not officially open for women. She was the first female student in her school.
1889– Worked at Kiseleff & Heikel Architects and later at Lars Sonck’s office.1889 Designed buildings for free of charge for the voluntary fire brigades of Porvoo and Hamina.
1890 Diploma of architecture as the first woman in Europe.
1892 Newander’s house (“Signe Castle”) in Pori was completed.
1916 Hornborg died on December 6th in Helsinki.
